The different causes of single parenthood and rights of single parents

posted on 23 December 2010 | posted in Uncategorised

There are many different causing factors that will cause some parents to end up as single parents. There are natural causes like one parent passing away leaving the other one as a widow or widower and also to assume the the role of both father and mother. If I were in that position, then my rights as a single parent or mother would still remain intact because I will not have to share custody of my children with anyone. In many cases such parents are supported by the state, financially and that is if their finances have been crippled by the loss of a parent. Another reason for single parenthood and the most common one is separation or divorce. The rights of both the parents change because one of them has to assume full custody of the children. If the mother for example is given custody of the children, the father who is no longer in union with the mother becomes a single father and his right as a single father will be slightly different. For example, he will be able to see his children at specific times as required by the court, that is the only thing that will change, but he will still have to be financially active in the life of his children.
