Diet Mathematics: Counting Calories to Lose Weight

posted on 3 February 2011 | posted in Health and Beauty

I have been thinking about calories all day. My Nutritionist told me I should watch out for my calorie intake since it’s the main reason why I’m having weight problems right now. I had asked her about numbers then. I’m not really good in Mathematics but I think I will do fine.

How much calories should I eat daily then for me to achieve my ideal weight?

She told me it will have to depend on several factors. Just like Mathematics, it’s got some kind of formula for me to know my ideal calorie intake. Factors such as height, weight, fat-muscle percentage and many more must be considered. She said however that general rules will have to apply. Yeah, again, just like Mathematics.

My Nutritionist told me further about BMR or Basal Metabolic Rate which is actually computed on a specific formula. She doesn’t want to confuse me with so many formulas so she suggested a site that offers free BMR computation. Knowing the BMR then will give me the number of calories I needed to maintain my current weight. She said there is a chart or something that will give equivalent calorie intake to a specific BMR value or something. Thus, it is now easier to see which equivalent calorie intake is needed for the ideal weight that I wanted.

In numbers however, I would have to eliminate 3.500 calories from my diet to lose a pound. This means, if I cut back on my soda intake or do some exercises to eliminate 250 calories there and here, I could lose a pound in a week. It’s not a very fast solution but it is something that works.

I don’t think there really is a need to calculate my calorie intake everyday. I just have to be very familiar with food in the same group, the same calorie level and know the amount of calories that are being eliminated by certain exercises that I love doing every now and then and I'm beginning to lose weight fast.

You see, I’m not a whiz in numbers but I think I can be an expert in this Diet Mathematics.
